I’ve said it before. I don’t think manipulation is terrible. However, most people think of manipulation in a negative light.
If you think of manipulation in that light, here are some tricks to manipulate people:
- Lie - It’s easy. Anyone can do it. You do it more than you think. Just flat out lie to get someone to do what they want.
- Bribe - Everyone has a price. Discover that and you can move the world.
- Fear - You can use threats and fear. People are more motivated by fear of loss than the possibility of gain.
- Exploit - If you know the person’s secrets you can exploit them for your manipulative scheme.
Of course, these are all less than ethical means to an end.
You don’t need to resort to these tactics, unless you’re selling crap. Or you don’t care about your customers. Or you’re a sociopath. Or all of the above.
Do the right thing. It’s always the better path.
Short term victories aren’t worth the reward if they limit the long-term objective.
